Man... who would have thought that the humble banana has such a colorful history... and such a dark fate?
This is why writers and storytellers need to read everything they can, watch as many documentaries as they can and talk to as many people as they can - I literally couldn't have made something as interesting as this tale of the humble banana up. The truth, as they say, is stranger than fiction.

That is pretty sad and scary stuff. What's scarier is that most of our food supply is propagated in vast monoculture, all of them easily susceptible to the same fate as that of the banana. Farewell sweet banana, you shall be dearly missed.
